It’s not easy to get good deals on car insurance at any age, but being a young driver presents an additional challenge. In this guide you will learn how to do this and which car insurers young drivers should take a closer look at.

These could be of interest to young people who are worried about their car or their insurance premiums after an accident.
When it comes to car insurance for teens, according to our analysis, young drivers pay more than their older, more experienced counterparts – an average of about $169 per month.
Teen Driving Facts And Statistics 2023
It comes down to simple statistics. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), teens ages 16 to 19 are nearly twice as likely to experience a fatal car accident. They are also more likely to drive while distracted. Additionally, insurance companies don’t have to use as much data to assess how responsible a teen driver is on the road. This means a higher risk for insurers, which is why car insurance for young people is more expensive.
In our analysis, we found that male teen drivers pay about $20 more per month than female teen drivers. Again, this is due to statistics. Male teenagers are more likely to get into accidents. They have caused two-thirds of all crashes involving teens ages 16 to 19 in recent years, according to IIHS data.
The best way to find cheap car insurance for teens is to compare rates from multiple companies. Each insurer has its own risk algorithm. Although they all agree that insuring teen drivers is riskier than older drivers, they don’t all charge the same amount for teens. The only way to find out which young driver offers the best rate is to compare offers side by side.
In addition to shopping around, look out for teen-specific car insurance discounts, like the ones listed below. These can provide some relief from the high premium costs.

Another way to make car insurance more affordable for teens is to reduce coverage. But that is risky and may not even be possible. For example, a lender may not allow customers to waive collision and comprehensive insurance if they have leased or borrowed their vehicle. And even if it’s not necessary, a young driver might risk going without because they could face high out-of-pocket costs in the event of an accident. So weigh this option carefully and opt for better value rather than the lowest possible price.
Keeping their parents’ car insurance typically costs teen drivers less than trying to get their own, so it’s an attractive option. Fortunately, there is no legal reason why teenagers cannot be included on their parents’ insurance if the family agrees.
This means that a young driver can benefit from all the discounts to which their parents are entitled, e.g. For example, a multi-policy discount for bundling home and auto and a discount for ongoing coverage that teens alone may not be eligible for.
Of course, adding a teen driver means higher rates for parents, so it’s something every family needs to think about. Parents who are wary of taking on the additional costs can make their teen pay the difference between the current and new premiums.

There is no law governing when a young driver must purchase their own insurance, but in most cases they should probably have their own policy if they live independently, pay for their own expenses and drive their own vehicle.

But there are many other factors at play here, such as what discounts a teenager can take advantage of and whether they have a history of accidents. The only way to find out which company will offer a teenager the best price is to get a few quotes.
