Warhammer 40k’s 8th Edition Gives Space Marines A New Look
The Warhammer 40,000 franchise gets its eighth edition this month. It also features a new look for the venerable space marine group and a new boxed set called.
. The starter kit, which includes an anti-chaos space marine force, is set to release worldwide this month. Pre-orders begin this weekend, and the first sets will be in players’ hands on June 17.
, a spin-off of the swords and sorcery themed Warhammer franchise. The detailed tabletop miniatures game has been a staple of the hobby scene ever since.
The centerpiece of this new starter set are the Primarchs Space Marines, literally a new breed of the Emperor’s best that has been painstakingly developed over the past 10,000 years. In addition to their improved physique, Primaris Space Marines also come with new gear.

“The Mk X Tacticus armour,” Games Workshop wrote on its community page, “is a suit that combines the most effective elements of the Horus Hersey pattern of plate ancestors, with more recent developments in power armor technology. He’s a bolt rifle in battle.” Takes: Space Marine’s Archetypal Firearm, Reengineered, Remanufactured and Complete.”
These new space marines are slimmer than their counterparts, and stand tall on the desk. In addition to the reworked arms and back, they also appear to have more room around the helmet thanks to an enlarged gusset. This should make it a little easier to paint them. The armor has also been enhanced, but not so much that these cars look bulky. A scan from the most recent issue of White Dwarf Magazine, posted on the Warhammer Community page, gives some more details on what’s going on with the all-new Titans armor.
The creation of the Primaris Space Marines is a break with tradition. As long as there’s been a Warhammer 40,000, space marines have been somewhat insufferable. This eighth edition reintroduces them as a new fighting force for humanity, and what that means on the table is still anyone’s guess. So far, Games Workshop has only said that there will be rules to allow Primarch Space Marines and Legacy Space Marines to fight against each other in the same army.
Games Workshop’s lever states that Primrose Marines are used to create entirely new Chapters and reinforce existing Chapters in the field. However, not everyone is a fan of the future.

“Many Chapter Masters have welcomed their Primitive Brethren into their ranks, embracing the new force with joy,” wrote Games Workshop. “Others, however, view these new creations with suspicion or outright hostility, claiming that the emperor’s work was not interfered with.”

It looks like the launch of this starter set is the first of many new product announcements for the eighth edition. There are also new books, dice and player aids on the way.

Fans can pre-order the new starter set starting June 3 at their friendly local game store or online. We’ve reached out to a Games Workshop retail location, and expect supplies to be severely limited. For those who have seen any of my other series, you will realize that they are rather slow in the process. And I totally understand this! Anyway! I’m closer to making some of my plans than you think, but I’m a little secretive about it. Although I have two other projects in mind, one that I will start soon, and another that will continue for a long time. After getting back into Warhammer 40k recently and seeing more and more space marine threads pop up, I’ve decided to make my own. But with a twist!
The average height of a real person wearing this type of clothing is probably closer to 5’9. I’m an inch and a half shy of 6 feet, but with some cool plans to make myself about 6’5. Unfortunately, a space marine is between 7-8 feet, sometimes even 10! So I’m going to make steel for this project to give me an extra 1-2 feet of height. I currently have plans for a lot of things, like arm length, hands, etc. to make sure I get the replicated look I really need. After it’s done, I’ll try a simple Tau Toro, fully armored, as well as a Tyrande! that’s right…
Space Marine Armor (foam Template)
Currently I am in the early stages of planning. Here are some reference images I’m using to make this monster’s weapon that I found with a quick google search.
Just so I can get this perfect, I’ll make an adult size dress first (closer to 6 feet). Then, after it’s done, I’ll move on to the original 1:1 scaled size, which I hope to be 8 feet.
I’m in the middle of looking for the best Pepakura files, if you have any you’ve found/created that are absolutely crazy HD and awesome, link me!

Pep? seriously? Scratch construction – Pep is not the best solution for everything. You’ll be there for days piping what are basically eight cylinders with rounded cutouts for legs and arms. The only thing you should consider wearing is a helmet. Shout out to Darkslater, his dad Scratch made one (some kind of different mod – I’m not a Warhammer 40k buff) and it was huge and hard to get to a convention (which you might want to consider – take note .There are so many small doors behind him…)
Sounds like a plan. I’m so glad when I’m fully grown I’ll be 6’4, at least I’ll be able to play the role of a space marine well.
It looks cool, but it doesn’t quite reflect what I’m looking for. I’m really aiming for an exact replica. I’ll take my time with Pep if it allows better replication.
I was able to do some very minor pap work today, it’s pretty late in the day, just got home from work, and have a few more things to do today. So I squeezed in this! which is built into a left-handed glove

. I would actually, maybe, make a sharp papier-mâché armor and maybe recreate it with clay, cut the pieces and make a mold out of them. I’m not a fan of Pepakura when it comes to round things Warhammer 40K: Space Marines is one of those games I never expected to see a sequel to. It’s been 12 years since the game launched on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and my hope was starting to fade. I am lucky
