Humans like to mix well with new and familiar. As much as I’d like to take credit for such a smart idea, I can’t. That has to go to the wonderful Tom Scott.

In his latest video, Scott explains why you can’t name a ‘Con’ file on a Windows operating system. Like most of Scott’s work, it’s a great video, full of interesting tech information. If you haven’t seen any of his stuff, I highly recommend it.

But why does this have to do with 9 of 40k? In addition to the desktop computer, Scott talks about how many people are feeling the changes. In fact, people love innovation and adaptation in a positive way.
I think this is a useful way to think about the 9th season – or the potential of the 9th. The game system needs to change, but it doesn’t have to change too much, and right now with the 8th version we are at a point where changes are needed, just not much.
Overall, 8th edition is a great game. Like any game, it’s not perfect, but 8th gets a lot of things right. What’s more, we are right in the middle of the latest news on the game where every episode gets something new. Of course, not all headline updates are equal, but this approach is much better than some missing parts.
But these reforms present problems. The game used to be simple, easy, and easy to jump into, but not anymore. 8th edition, like most game systems after a few years of updating, is thick.

As a T’au player, I have many opportunities. To play the game, I need a copy of the book, the T’au codex, and
Supplement. To make things easier, I usually don’t bring a physical copy of the main book when I go gaming. Almost all of my competitors are well versed in the basic rules, so I find the digital copy on my phone works well. That said, if I’m going to a tournament, I want hard copies of all my rules. But all things considered, two or three books aren’t too bad.
But if we examine the popular army of the game, we find a different story. It’s not uncommon for a Space Marine player to need four or five different books to play. Of course, this will depend on the section in question, but most mariners will need good books.
But we’re not just talking about books. GW has published several FAQs and errata for the main rules and specific army rules. In fact, keeping up to date can be difficult. What’s more, tournament organizers may not be familiar with the latest decision from GW. And while organizers should do their best to stay up-to-date, there’s a lot out there, and it’s understandable that the busy tournament director is missing something.

The average player, therefore, may need to bring four or five physical books and another three or four event updates, and we cannot guarantee that everyone will be up to date.
But I would say that it is not necessarily a revolution that will herald a new record. In short, I think we deserve one.
GW released the 8th edition of 40k in June 2017. We have two months until the third edition.
The average time between releases – excluding the 2nd and Rogue Trader – is over three years. The fact that the 8th edition is coming in the mid-length range doesn’t necessarily mean that a new one is in development, but I’d say it’s very likely. GW knows that it needs to continue to build on past successes, in order to keep moving forward with its innovation process. If the business is not growing, it is in trouble.

But I don’t think 9th edition will be much different from 8th. As Scott said, innovation and adaptation. The Psychic Awakening series brought a lot of new things to the game, and it wouldn’t be fair for GW to detract from their work on the series with big, drastic changes.
When the 9th arrives, I think we’ll see a smaller than normal gaming system.
But how would this solve the problem of obesity? It wouldn’t be done – unless GW looked into digital publishing to match the new version. I think this would be an amazing move.
There is a wide range of GW for building digital models, and there are many different ways to do it. When I discuss this issue with my gaming team, one theme keeps coming up: subscription services give players access to all, up-to-date releases.
Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Faq: Don’t Get Left Behind!
There’s a lot to go into, and that’s a topic for another time, but I want to summarize how this would affect new players. In fact, I’d argue that it’s the problem of new players – the lifeblood of the hobby – that would stop GW from going digital. I can definitely imagine that it is easier to generate interest in the hobby with practical, complex books. Although it is not impossible to do this with digital devices, it is very difficult.
There are a number of reasons for this. Fun, at its core, is obvious. 40k is not a video game. It is a game where two people have to move three equal objects in three ways. Most 40k players will vividly remember the first model they ever picked up. Maybe it was Space. Mine was a Space Marine bike, still in stock.
We won’t see the end of the physical codex, at least not for a while. But I think we might be close to a digital version for the big game players.
However, what I have written above shows that we live in normal times. And of course, right now, we’re not. Before the shutdown, GW was in good financial health, and it would be safe to assume that the development team was working on new records. But now, it’s anyone’s guess. While the development of new products will likely continue, it is unlikely that GW will release a product as important as a new version of their popular game.

But this raises another question: how long can GW hold off on release? It’s a problem that many businesses are struggling with today, and it’s certainly not beyond this article. In response to the current situation, we have put the global economy on hold, and it will only take a couple of months to get back to where we were. Here’s hoping it takes months not years.
When that happens, then, I think we’ll see a new version – a little different but not really. The new 40k book is almost upon us, and with it comes an exclusive book release, the Indomitus set! This “sorta” starter kit comes packed with tons of awesome content, including a full book, so let’s check it out!
Games Workshop has repeatedly stated that this is a limited edition box set to start a new post, so it’s not the best way to start. I have to imagine that a much lighter version of this will come out soon and a few models will be “proper” to begin with. This means no dice, no rulers, no quick start commands, or any of that. What you see in the store though is many and many models. We still have a complete book. It even has a limited cover!
I’m going to start with the model. Like I said, you see a lot. On the Necron side you get an Overlord, Royal Warden, Plasmancer, Skorpekh Lord, 3 Skorpekh Destroyers, Cryptothralls, 20 Necron Warriors, 6 Scarab Swarms, and a Canoptek Reanimator. On the Marine side you get a Primaris Captain, a Primaris Lieutenant, a Primaris Chaplain, a Judge, an Ancient Bladeguard, 3 Bladeguard Veterans, 10 Beggars, 3 Exterminators, and 3 Outsiders. These two are great starters for both armies. In fact, they both come out at about 50 power, so you have Power to Enter!
Codex: Chaos Knights (9th)
All of these models are good pushers, but I’d say they’re even better than pushfits from Dark Imperium or Soul Wars. They’re split up, so you can’t have the rare Necrons and Marines on the same market that we’ve seen in previous releases. So far I’ve put together almost all of the Necrons as well as the Marine Captain and I think it’s one of the best things to push! I usually cut the knots on top of the push and tie them together, which I still do
