Warhammer 40k Chaos Space Marine Codex – Get ready for some vile heresy, because next week comes a new codex for Warhammer 40k’s fiercest faction, the Chaos Space Marines. On Sunday, Games Workshop announced a range of products that will be available for pre-order starting Saturday, June 25. Pride of place among them was Codex: Chaos Space Marines, along with the new Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol.

We’ve already seen some of the myriad 9th Edition changes to be found in the upcoming Chaos Space Marines codex through previews from the Warhammer community. For one thing, the Chaos Space Marines finally have two wounds – a much-needed upgrade that should help bring them up to speed with their Loyalist Imperium counterparts.

GV also promised new legion rules for each traitor legion – including warlord traits, relics, stratagems, legion traits, and secondary objectives. We weren’t sure what was meant by “each” at first, but now we know there will be eight sub-factions. It looks like the codex will include six of the original nine traitor legions – minus the Thousand Sons, Deathwatch and World Eaters, those with standalone codexes – followed by the Red Corsairs and Bile Creations.

WarCom states that there will be “prayers, psychic powers, signs of chaos,” along with data for 44 units. In terms of raw numbers, it’s actually slightly less than the previous codex, despite all the new Chaos Space Marine kits shown at Warhammer Fest. The Chaos Space Marines 8th Edition codex originally had 45 datasheets, but there were 53 datasheets in the 2019 update.

First revealed in May, Combat Patrol: Chaos Space Marines looks to have a nice mix of different unit types, with 10 Legionnaires, five Havoks, a Helbrute and a Dark Apostle flanked by two Dark Disciples. There are a total of 19 models, which come in all shapes and sizes.

As with every release of the Warhammer 40k Codex, there are add-ons and add-ons available. Codex: Chaos Space Marines has an optional collector’s edition, with silver foil page edges and a soft-touch cover, and there are also custom data cards and dice. The dice deserve a little praise because they are clear and legible in black on red, with a star of chaos at six. (Not given, just compare them to the new Skaven dice for Age of Sigmar).

Both the codex and Battle Patrol will be available for pre-order on Games Workshop’s webstore on June 25th. Chaos Space Marines aren’t the only Warhammer 40k faction getting some love this weekend, though. Genestealer cults also get their own combat patrol.

Codex Chaos Space Marines: Problems & Solutions

Besides the very spiky Chaos Space Marine, we have quite a few other interesting characters on the front cover. Obviously, we’ve got some cultists running around, but we’ve also got some guys who look like traitor guards mixed with Dark Mechanicus vibes. And it’s not like we don’t have those models…

Is it finally time to get the Traitor Guard expansion pack to go with the Chaos Space Marines book?! How cool would that be? If nothing else, this could be a tease of some changes coming to the Chaos Cultists.

In any case, this is clearly just the tip of the iceberg. Get ready to learn more at Warhammer Fest 2022 this week!
