Warhammer 40k 9th Edition Indomitus – This weekend’s Warhammer 40,000 preview showcases the Games Workshop miniatures available within the new Launch Box (note: not a starter set) for those who want to dive into sci-fi gaming of the dark, far future. This box is called Indomintus and is full of miniatures.
This set is not designed as a starter set (does not come with dice, gauges, etc.) but as a launch box to celebrate the release of the new version sometime in July. The set contains two massive armies of Primaris Space Marines and Necrons

Indomitus Is Now On Made To Order, For Everyone Who Missed It
So, this gives you an insight into all the miniatures for the naval side of things, especially when it comes to looking at the way the Primaris Space Marines fill in the gaps in their armory. They’re starting to offer a lot of items here that replace the older Space Marines. While they still have a place in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, it’s hard not to think about just creating an entire army of Space Marines in their new armor.
In addition to the miniatures of the Space Marines, we also have their enemies. The Necrons probably look better than the Space Marines by a country mile, and I can see a lot of people forming armies of the newly awakened and those who are relentless in eliminating the inferior.
There are some great looking miniatures in the Necrons collection. I love the new design of them and I love the fact that they’ve been seriously beefed up. The core warriors look great, especially with their battered and broken appearance, but I think the new characters and some of the monstrous monsters with many legs really breathe.
In addition to including the new miniatures in this launch box, you’ll also get this full art print of the Warhammer 40,000 core rules.

I imagine this will be included as part of Indomitus itself and you’ll see a different core rulebook for you to pick up later. I’m fascinated to see how they break things down to do their starter set even further.

“Represents the latest miniature designs and the latest evolution in rule development,” Games Workshop said in a press release. This boxed set is intended for fans, and is a convenient way to transition to the new release for anyone who loves it
The boxed set doesn’t include traditional gaming aids — no rulers, dice, or explosion blocks. During a live stream on Twitch, the designers revealed that exclusion allowed them to include more miniatures than ever before.
The Space Marine force is made up entirely of the new, taller Primaris-style soldiers first introduced in 2017. It also includes the first Space Marine motorcycle revamp in over a decade. The Necron power is similarly unique, with several new sculpts. The set includes a massive new miniature called Skorpekh Lord. The sentient, insect-like robot was featured prominently in the latest trailer. A member of the Heavy Metal paint team said fans should look forward to a full range of new Citadel paints and washes to support its unique metallic look.

First things first – Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition marks my first foray into 40k racing. Although I’m a huge fan of Age of Sigmar and Warcry, I’d never handled Games Workshop’s futuristic behemoth before getting my hands on Indomitus, the latest version of the game that marks the official launch of 9th Edition.

As such, if you’re looking for a forensic breakdown of all the rules changes for this new edition and how they stack up compared to previous iterations, this isn’t it. However, what I can offer you is a new perspective on the contents of Indomitus, how to play the game and whether it is worth purchasing for existing players and those ready to take their first steps towards this bleak future.
Indomitus is a very huge group. A lot of that is down to the generous amount of plastic, which I’ll get back to shortly, but a lot of the weight is down to the fantastic core rulebook. Although its large size may seem daunting at first, it is an excellent starting point for anyone new to 40kg. Previously, I found knowledge to be impenetrable because a) there was too much of it and b) everyone’s opinions were so impractically strong. I knew the Horus Heresy was a big thing, and people seemed to really enjoy making fun of the Space Wolves, but I didn’t really understand why.
It took 192 pages of lore to get there, but I now feel well-versed in Warhammer 40,000 and the various factions waging an eternal war for or against the Emperor. Better yet, it didn’t feel like a chore; The core book is well written and beautifully designed, making it a great volume to handle. In addition to explaining the current state of the Empire of Man, the collection focuses on a few key battlefields – including the Pariah Nexus and its role in the Indomitus Crusade. These points of focus help set the stage for any narrative campaign, regardless of the factions involved, but also go a long way in providing context for the Death Angels and Necron forces involved in Indomitus.
While the core book is happy to tell its own tale, the rules section, by contrast, is pleasingly brief. 40k I took a lot of inspiration from Age of Sigmar in its 8th (and therefore 9th) edition and that shared DNA definitely made it easier for me to learn the basics. However, I found the rules to be pleasantly straightforward, but also comprehensive. Existing players will take no time at all getting to know how things work in this new version, while newcomers are guided through each stage of the game, learning not only what happens but why.
Games Workshop Gives Warhammer 40,000 Indomitus A July Release Date
Through this book learning app, I found 40k 9th Edition to be a surprisingly smooth and fast game. Although things inevitably slow down once entire teams bring out their lightning archers and the dice pool starts flying, I was impressed with how quickly the event actually got going. Since Age of Sigmar tends to have relatively short-range weapons, it’s common for the start of any battle to feel like a long maneuver as players funnel their forces toward the inevitable melee somewhere in the middle.
With ranged weapons playing such a crucial role in Warhammer 40,000, it felt like my units were playing a crucial role in Warhammer 40,000.
