Handling A State Farm Car Accident Claim

State Farm’s response to Hurricane Ian began before the storm made landfall, as disaster response team vehicles were deployed earlier this week and ready to respond in Birmingham, Alabama. State Farm is setting up an orientation center for incoming claims support in Birmingham, with more than 100 new claims handlers arriving every hour. They are distributing fully equipped laptops, printers and additional technological tools to prepare claim handlers to respond effectively to affected customers.
Our ION response includes State Farm agents who live and work in the same neighborhoods as our customers, and teams of claims specialists trained in disaster response who travel to assess damage on site. They are joined by thousands of employees at centralized care centers across the country who help answer customer queries and file their claims.
Additionally, our remote claims teams are able to conduct virtual inspections with affected customers after the storm, helping customers in their time of need. The use of aerial imagery in the first phase of response can help determine areas of severe impact. This will help State Farm identify the hardest hit areas and consumers and help us to respond early and assess where to send our first wave of resources.

Given the extensive home damage and potential for claims from Hurricane Ian, we want to make Floridians aware of an important issue called AOB (Assignment of Benefits). State Farm has seen an increase in claims with deployment of benefits across the state.
Once it is safe to do so, check your property for damage. If you have storm damage to your home, please follow these tips to avoid an AOB mistake: If your home has property damage, contact State Farm immediately to report a claim. Be careful before signing anything without reading the documents thoroughly. Remember that the AOB transfers your rights to payment and many rights to the seller or contractor. This language is often difficult to identify in documents. Save your rights! Vendors that take on AOBs can be water mitigation companies, roofers, or other contractors. Be diligent before signing anything with a seller/contractor who will directly ask you and advise you to file a homeowner’s claim. Also, preserve all building materials removed by any contractor or vendor until you speak with State Farm.
