It is the only real-time global ranking of the world’s passports, updated frequently as new visa exemptions and changes are announced, Passport Index said.

Global citizenship and residency advisory firm Henley & Partners uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to rank the world’s 199 passports. This index has been running for 18 years.
Countries receive one point for each destination they can visit visa-free. This applies if citizens can obtain a Visa on Arrival, Visitor’s Permit or Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) upon entering the destination.
How To Get Multiple Passports
For destinations that require a visa or the passport holder must obtain a government-approved e-Visa prior to departure.
This has now dropped to 189 countries, leaving Singapore in first place. The country has gained visa-free access to 25 more people over the past 10 years, pushing it up five places.
The United States, meanwhile, continued its 10-year decline, dropping two more places to eighth. The country has seen the smallest increase in any score in the ranking over the past decade.
Afghanistan remains the weakest passport in the world, with visa-free access to only 27 destinations – 165 fewer than Singapore.

They are followed by Libya, Bhutan, Eritrea, Equatorial Guinea and India, which each offer visa-free access to fewer than five other nationalities.
Two indicators show that high openness is not necessary for high visa-free access to countries. However, Singapore and South Korea – both relatively open – have moved up in the Passport Index, while the United States and Canada have moved down the index as their openness has stabilized.
