Ram 1500 Air Suspension Towing – Well, I decided to haul my skidsteer with ECODIESEL this weekend. There was plenty of power to pull it at any speed comfortably. in the pics, I adjusted it back on the trailer because it was originally 6 inches further forward and the rear suspension was near the bottom. I don’t have factory air suspension so I will add a set of air bags so I don’t have this issue anymore. WAY more power, torque, and hauling ability than any other 1/2 ton I’ve owned! Any suggestions on air bags? Thank you
You can build the Airlift 1000 like I did for $80. This works, but you need to have air in the bags before adding the load.

This is the last week in my place in Georgia. This rig towed, sometimes with 7 ft. harrow and brush hog too. There is NO weight distribution for this trailer and my tractor is a Ford 2000, 36 hp. diesel.
Now, the answer, Timbren bumper stops. When I hook up, the truck drops about an inch to make contact with the Timbren’s. Then, it literally stopped going down. No sag, no sway and about 15 mpg when I tow my 24ft tractor trailer loaded. Don’t know the weight but I can load heavy on the top or front axles with no issues. Look up the weight of that tractor on the internet because my book is in my area in Georgia. Add a large 24 ft. trailer, harrow, scooter plow and brush hog to generate some weight idea.

The weight of the tongue is controlled by the said balance. In my experience towing heavy loads, trailer condition, tires, trailer brakes, and balance are as or more important than what you are towing.
I second timbrens. I’ve had them on all the trucks I’ve owned and they work and install in about 15 minutes.
Air Suspension Makes Towing Anything Easier
The skid steer weighs in at 6000 lbs. The trailer is maybe another 1500 lbs? It’s a good size load for a 1500, but it’s got it very well.
I also have Timbrens and they work great, when loaded with an 8500 lb trailer and 1000 lbs of hitch weight the back of the truck drops a few inches but nothing crazy, the best part is they are maintenance free.

Air bags absorb vibration from the road, but tires will transfer some of the vibration from the road to the truck body.

I have not been able to stop the air fittings from leaking on the Air Lift bags even after replacing all lines with air brake type tubing. The new bags come with air brake tubing and fittings and are bolted to the frame /axle in the same location as the factory air bags.I’ll let you know how they work after the next camping trip.
I had my Timbergrove bags in the garage last week. My air lift 1000 held the wind and worked well for what it was, but I was looking forward to installing my Timbergrove bags. I got the bigger bags from Timbergrove because I plan to install a 4″ lift. The owner of Timbergrove said I can install the bigger bags now before the lift and will give me a 1″ lift in rear keeping the bags at min pressure.
With respect to airbags, is it worth getting the factory air suspension, or forget it and go straight for the aftermarket?
How Much Can A 2023 Ram 1500 Tow?
I have used timbrin’s on every dodge I have owned from my 91 3/4, 95 3/4 to 03 3500. Worked great. I hauled an 11 foot cabover camper and 5th wheels. When I tow my 24 foot cargo trailer, I use the easy lift hitch from the camping trailer to shift some of the weight to the front end of the towing rig. I haul my diesel tractor a lot and have never had a problem with any truck I’ve used, even the F150 I’ve been driving well while waiting for my 2014 Outdoorsman to get here. This week I hope. I tried the air bags in the 95 but also went with the timbrin here. So Timbrins will be added soon.
My 1st 3 Ram’s were all Cumin’s. So I’m waiting to see how the ECO does and it looks like it will serve my needs well. By the way in a little over 1 1/2 years I have put almost 37000 miles on the F150 with a little over 10000 of that towing.

I’m towing a @6500TT, using WDB, when I’m loaded it drops exactly 2inches in the back. Although I have no problems with swaying, I wonder if this timbren bumper stop might be better than installing air bags

Anyone else have Timbergrove attached? I wonder what they are doing to the ride quality of our trucks. I just bought a 23.5′ Larson Admiral that should weigh in at about 4800# all loaded ready for fishing. I’m sure the truck can handle this weight without any help, but the Timbergrove sure can’t hurt. As long as they don’t affect the ride of the truck when not towing.

Click to expand… I can’t do Airlift on my 3D because of the four point air suspension system. Looked at the Timber Grove unit and really like it and thought it would just solve my freight problem. Wrote Timber Grove, they responded within four hours, asking if their unit would work on my 3D truck. They said that it fits my truck but the factory ride sensors can cause air problems.Unfortunately, I like the look of the Timber Grove unit and they seem like a good company to deal with as well.
Our kit will physically fit a Ram 1500 with factory air suspension. The unknown potential damage consequences could be on the vehicle’s electronics and valve components. I know the system is designed so an overload will trigger a safety device to protect the components. I also know that there is a leveling valve that controls the height of the vehicle. In theory, If you put a load on the car and then add air to our bags, it will bring it back to normal ride height, thus fooling the leveling valve into thinking the load has enough factory air to support it .
