Things moved quickly: he met his mother and sister when they visited New York from Norway that October, and he celebrated Thanksgiving with his family in North Carolina. They both decided to move into a Brooklyn apartment together in December.
They planned to travel to Norway that Christmas but needed to wait for Rød’s student visa. He had changed schools and his visa was not transferred, so he submitted new papers in September. They waited for visas, and waited, and waited until Christmas came and went.

“I still don’t have my student visa,” says Rød. “If I leave this country now, it looks like I’ve been here for over a year illegally.” If he leaves, Rød fears he will have no chance of getting another visa to return to Harvey. As if this wasn’t difficult enough, last winter he also received news that his grandparents in Norway were hospitalized with pneumonia.
Right after breakfast at the restaurant, Harvey said that the hall might be perfect for a wedding. “For the first nine months we spoke Spanish,” says Lenherr of her conversations with Parker, whom she met at a language school in Argentina in October 2010. The couple separated, Mills moving to Montana and Mercado staying in Minnesota. After two years of separation, they decided to formalize the divorce, which lasted several months. Although the legal process between him and Mills was civil, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services case was trying. Mercado has his two-year green card, but his next 10 years is now in jeopardy. The couple provided proof (photos, tickets bought together, letters from them, family and friends) proving that their marriage is in good faith, although now in the shadow of their divorce.
