In the UK, the Indian Embassy outsources their visa processing to VFS. This website can be very confusing so this guide is written to help you navigate through the difficulties.

What Are Indian Visa Fees And Charges

A long-term tourist visa will allow you to stay in India for a period of 1 to 5 years with multiple re-entry visas. It allows you to stay in India for a maximum of 180 days per visit. If you want a 5-year visa, biometric data will be collected at the VFS center. You cannot apply for a 5-year visa by post.

There are two methods of applying for a long-term Indian tourist visa in the UK: in person and by post.

If you wish to make a postal application please select UK-London. Visa applications can be made by post, as long as it is for a visa period of less than 5 years. All applicants requiring a 5-year tourist visa must request an appointment as biometric information is required (fingerprints and photograph).

All applicants who are 4 years of age or less can apply by post. After determining the duration of your visa, fill out the first part of the form.

The application is liable to be rejected if the uploaded image is not clear and as per the description.

If you are happy with the image select “Save and Continue” if you are not satisfied select “Upload Image Again” and if you are frustrated save and exit temporarily or use the service without any problems!

Review the form and ensure that all information is complete and accurate, the visa may be denied if this is not the case. If satisfied, please select the Confirm and Continue button at the bottom. Select Change if you want changes.

Click on the Print Form (orange button), the completed application will automatically download a PDF to your Downloads folder.

*Note your application ID (starting with GBR) you will need to pay the visa fee online.

If you are applying by post there is no need to click to book an appointment, unless you are applying for a 5-year visa and biometric data is required.

A new window will appear showing the calendar, select the date that suits you highlighted in yellow:

You will then be taken to a screen that allows you to schedule and confirm an appointment. Select Confirm when you are happy with the date and time. Make sure to bring all your documents to this appointment. The next step is to pay for the visa online.

After returning home you need to go to the top left of the page and go to Visa Fee and Payment Details, and select Fee Details and Payment:

If the amount looks correct click continue and you will be taken to the payment confirmation screen, click submit.

You will then be redirected to the payment screen that appears, enter the payment information and click Pay Now.

An invoice will be generated when the payment is confirmed, save it and print it. This will go inside your application envelope.
