How To Repair Scratches On Corian Countertops – We recently received an inquiry from the Cheshire village of Cuddington about a Corian worktop that was chipped and scratched in many places. Although we’re best known for our flooring work, we’re equally good at paving stones so we were happy to help.
Granite is probably the most luxurious material for kitchens and although it is very durable it is also expensive. Corian is man-made and has a lower cost but is more easily damaged by heat and scratches than natural stone. However, it is a very durable material and we find that it can be stored in the same way as natural stone.
How To Repair Scratches On Corian Countertops
After discussing the size of the work area and the cost of renovating the surface, a date was arranged for a visit.

To refinish a Corian Countertop the first step was to run the surface with a hand sander with an 800-grit resin disc. Water is used to wet the surface of the work to absorb the fine dust that has been created. The pad should be used until the scratches are removed and then avoid creating a shallow area that should drive the pad all the way up to the same surface.
The surface is washed with water to remove the fine slurry that is formed and the process is repeated with a 1200-grit disc followed by another wash. At this point all the scratches and cracks in the Corian should be gone but the polished look will have faded.
Restoring the shine on the countertop requires polishing and for this we like to use Tile Doctor Diamond Burnishing pads which are available in 6 inch diameter and are the perfect size to use with a hand held buffer. It’s the same way to use a water based oil cleaner and start with an 800-grit pad and finish with a 1500-grit pad.
After the coating dried, two layers of sealer were applied to protect it. For this event I used Tile Doctor Ultra-Seal which is a natural stain recommended for use in food preparation and catering areas.

To finish I rocked the handle with a 6-inch white pad, the conversion was fantastic and my customer was over the moon. For aftercare I recommend using the Tile Doctor Stone Patina Spray which is a soft gel that preserves the patina of the stone. GAYLA: I am. About four and a half years ago, I remodeled my kitchen and installed Corian countertops. And I used a model called Savannah; and one of the lighter ones. So I’m getting ready now to sell my house and look at the metal, they are really – there are tons, like thousands of hair skins. And I wonder, how can I restore their beauty? They weren’t bright, but they were shiny.
LESLIE: Yeah, they have a satin finish that looks really rich and nice but obviously, over time, because of normal wear and tear, it’s going to get dull and not very nice.
There’s a great website that mostly focuses on granite and marble care – it’s called StoneCare.com – but they have some Corian products. And it’s actually a spray. They are designed to minimize residue on the surface. I’m not sure it will help you with scratches but it might be a good starting point. It’s called their Corian Deep Cleaner. And that might be a good place to start, at least.
GAYLA: OK. Yes, I don’t know that they are ugly. I keep them clean but it’s just a question – it’s just hair cuts. And when the sun comes through the window, you really see them.
Corian & Solid Surface Repairs
TOM: What the product does is it will also draw out any residue from the cleansing you’ve been doing religiously, which is a good thing. Another good thing, however, about Corian is that the surfaces can be repaired. And if you – Corian can be repaired, especially a little sand, so to speak, and …
TOM: All right. To get the bullets out again. So it’s not something I’d recommend doing the first time.
TOM: But if you get in touch with a kitchen cabinet company, for example, they might have a shelf and for a fraction of the cost, they can come out and refinish the top for you. They will have all the tools and equipment, as well. And they can probably pull off more of that. Corian is a durable and beautiful material that is a popular choice for mobile homes. It can look as beautiful as granite, quartz, and other high-quality materials, and it can have a wide range of colors. It’s a solid thing, but it’s indestructible. You have to be careful with it, or you might be calling a Corian technician.

The first thing you should do when you notice any damage to your Corian countertop is to check the warranty. DuPont offers a 10-year warranty on Corian, so you should know the date you installed your computer. Find your receipt, your registration card, your warranty information, or anything else that will help you date the countertop and confirm what you need.
Submit your claim to DuPont, and they’ll take care of the rest – assuming the damage falls under warranty.
If your repair is not covered by the DuPont warranty, or if the warranty has expired, you should look for a professional Corian countertop repair in Mesa. These technicians are specially trained and certified in the repair of Corian countertops. They will use the right tools, the right tools, and the right techniques to make repairs quickly and to keep the counter looking as good as new.
The crack may need to be filled, or if it is light enough, it can be taken out. Talk to experts about options and what will give you the best results.
Corian Vs Granite Kitchen Countertops: A Complete Guide
Many DIY tools are available to repair your own Corian countertops. Although you can use this feature, we do not recommend it. Without proper training, you are responsible for increasing the damage to your computer, which can lead to expensive repairs. If you try to repair your laptop yourself, you may also void your warranty if the countertop is still covered.
DIY kits often offer fillers that you can put into the crack and let dry. Then you will have smooth sand. However, it is possible for the crack to continue to develop long after the first crack has been filled. That’s because you haven’t fixed the structural problem that the crack has created. By calling a professional Gilbert Corian repairer, you can be sure that the cracks will be repaired and you will not have to suffer any further problems.
You don’t need to do much to keep your Corian looking good, but you should take a few precautions to ensure there are no new cracks or other types of damage. Store hot items on the countertop, as this can cause the items to expand and break when they get cold, hard and have nowhere else to go. Use trivets and potholders for hot pots and spoons.
Also, be careful to put down anything too heavy too quickly. You can also damage it by placing an object with too much force or dropping a heavy object.
