Last week I replaced a damaged Corian sink with a new sink. This customer’s sink had a crack a long time ago, and recently it started leaking. He needed to fix it, and fast.
How To Remove Scratches From Corian Sink
Unlike a counter-top, cracks in a Corian sink cannot be repaired. The only option is to cut out the sink and install a new one. You can install a new sink, which I wrote about in a previous blog. Or, if things allow, you can substitute the same Corian sink. In this example my customer had a Corian sink model 871, which is a standard size single sink. In this model, installing the same sink is not a problem.

Although the work is difficult, and requires skill, it is also possible and something I often do. See the results below.
You won’t even be able to tell that I removed the old sink and installed a new one. You can’t beat that!

About ten years ago we started noticing that our white Corian sink was starting to look dirty and had become slightly discolored and stained. That led us to ask the question, “How do you clean a badly stained Corian sink?”

We asked the right person – our dear friend and fellow RVer, Orene – who gave us a tip that worked wonders, and we’ve been using it ever since. We shared this tip in a video a decade ago, but because most RVs have white Corian kitchen and sinks, in today’s post we’re sharing Orene’s tip again for our new readers and viewers who may not have seen it before.
Corian is actually the brand name of a solid, non-porous surface created by Dupont back in the mid-’60s, and it’s been a very popular sink, countertop, and bench surface ever since.
What we do know for sure is that it is a hard surface found in most RV sinks, and it tends to stain and discolor over time. In fact, some RVers have told us they’ve tried everything to clean their badly stained Corian sinks, including Comet and other abrasive cleaners (not recommended… since they can scratch Corian), but nothing works. I’m fine. Of course, the more stained and discolored they become, the more difficult it is to clean them.
We used to use bleach to whiten our Corian sinks, but because bleach is toxic and smells so bad, we don’t like to use it much (although it’s still our choice when cleaning our fresh water tank). Also, the caustic nature of bleach seems to make things worse… getting Corian on the surface and making it VERY prone to staining – NOT what we wanted, for sure!

That’s why back in 2011, almost six years after taking ownership of our brand new Newmar, we were looking for a less toxic, but still highly effective, way to keep our kitchen and bathroom sinks clean.
This method is proven to work (by us!), and we hope you find this tip helpful in cleaning Corian sinks (or any other type of hard surface) in your RV.
This is the scoop size we use for OxiClean. Please note that we do not use the large bags that come with the large containers found at places like Costco.
If your Corian sinks are badly stained and discoloration is showing up on the sides of the sink, simply use more water to fill the sink and add more OxiClean. You may also need to let the solution sit in the sink for a few hours.

Quick Tip: if you don’t have time to do an OxiClean soak for your sink, but want to brighten it up quickly, try using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Just wet it and use it to gently scrub the surface of the sink. The Magic Eraser is abrasive enough to remove surface stains and debris, without being so abrasive that it damages the Corian surface. In a few quick minutes, and with just a little elbow grease, your Corian sink will look super clean and white. Then, if you have more time, follow up with an OxiClean soak for a sparkling white.
Yes! As long as the sink is made of Corian (or, again, another hard surface product/material), this method should work well, no matter where the sink is.
We don’t recommend this method for plastic sinks commonly found in inexpensive RVs, because there is a chance it could damage the plastic. Our suggestion is to check the manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning your sink, because it is possible that using OxiClean in this way can damage the plastic surface, making things worse in the long run.
Here is a link to OxiClean if you would like to read about it or order it. Our RV does not have an OxiClean tub, which we also use in our laundry.
Corian Vs. Heat
And here’s a video we posted back in 2011, showing the successful cleaning of our Corian sink that we were smearing with tea bags, blueberries, and other grime to see if OxiClean could handle it.
If you have Corian sinks in your RV or home, try this method of cleaning them with OxiClean and let us know in the comments section below how it works for you!

This works! I am hired and I intend to leave this place in good condition. This method of cleaning Coriander is effective and painless. It took several tries to get the kitchen sink where it should be, but what do I care? Fill the sink with hot water, add Oxiclean, leave, later come back and wash the sink, you’re done! Easy peasy! Thanks for this.

Corian countertops offer a clear, uniform, and clean look that can appeal to both kitchens and bathrooms, but it can be difficult to know exactly how to maintain them. If you have Corian countertops, it’s important to maintain them with regular cleaning, damage prevention measures, and special removal of stains and scratches. If you invest a little time in caring for your Corian countertops, you can keep them looking like new for years to come.
