How To Get Scratches Out Of Corian – We recently received an inquiry from the village of Cuddington in Cheshire regarding a corian worktop which was cracked and scratched in many places. Although we are well known for our floor restoration work, the equipment we use works equally well on stone worktops, so we were happy to help.

Granite is probably the best surface for a kitchen worktop, and while it is extremely durable, it is expensive. Corian is man-made and has a lower cost, but is more easily damaged by heat and scratches than natural stone. However, it is a very durable material and we have found that it can be maintained just as well as natural stone.

After discussing the size of the countertop and the cost of re-polishing the surface, a date was set for the visit.

Solid Surface Countertops Vs. Quartz Countertops

To refinish the Corian countertop, the first step was to run a hand sander equipped with an 800 grit polymer disc over the surface. Water is used to keep the work surface moist to absorb the fine dust that is produced. The pad should be applied to the point where the scratches have been removed, and then, to avoid the formation of shallow areas, it is necessary to pass the pad over the entire surface, lowering it to the same level.

The work surface is rinsed with water to remove the fine slurry that forms, then the process is repeated with a 1200 grit disc followed by a rinse. At this point, all the scratches and cracks on the Corian should have disappeared, but the polished look was tarnished as a result.

To bring a countertop back to its shine, you need to burnish it, and for that we like to use Tile Doctor Diamond Burnishing Pads, which are available in 6-inch diameters and are the perfect size for use with a hand buffer. It’s a similar process using water for lubrication starting at 800 grit and ending at 1500 grit.

After the work surface was dry, two layers of sealant were applied to protect it. This time I used Tile Doctor Ultra-Seal, which is a natural looking, undetectable product recommended for use in food preparation and serving areas.

When To Repair Or Replace Mesa Corian

I finished off with a 6″ white panel polish on the table top, the transformation was fantastic and my client was delighted. For aftercare, I recommend using Tile Doctor Stone Patina Spray, which is a mild cleaner that will preserve the patina of the stone. Repair kitchen counters that show a history of spilled wine, dropped pans, and unknown sharp objects, and you’ll preserve the value of your kitchen and home. You can easily hide some flaws, and other surface problems can only be solved by professional contractors.

Even the granite countertops in the kitchen wear out. But you can make them shine with a little time and knowledge. After fixing them, don’t forget to reseal.

Cracks, Chips, Scratches: Fill in gouges in granite by applying layers of epoxy in a color that matches the stone. First, clean the area with acetone, which breaks down the grease. Be sure to open the window for ventilation.

Stains: The type of stain—wine or ink, oil or bleach—determines the type of poultice you’ll need to soak up. A paste of flour and hydrogen peroxide removes grease, oil, bleach and ink stains; a mixture of flour and bleach cleans wine stains. If you want to go commercial, consider Alpha, Aqua Mix and StoneTech stone cleaners. Cost: from 6 to 20 dollars.
