How To Get A Visa For Kenya – In preparation for an upcoming trip to Kenya in January 2020, I applied for an online e-Visa. The Government of Kenya allows visitors from certain nationalities to apply for an online e-Visa or a visa upon arrival at a port of entry. While doing research, most of the people said that it is better to just get a visa on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. However, I decided to apply for an online e-Visa.

This is just my personal experience with the online visa process. Based on what I’ve read online, it can really be a different experience for different people.

First, it is important to only apply for the e-Visa online through the government website. It is known that there are other websites that pretend to be special places. I’ve seen these fake websites, and honestly they look good. However, don’t be fooled. They are scam sites. The best way to know that they are illegal is that they say the cost of a visa is between $120 to $199 USD. THIS IS NOT TRUE! The actual cost of a single entry visa to Kenya is $51 USD.

Once you are on the official government site, you can create an account using your email or your digital passport. After you create an account, you will be taken to the government’s eCitizen directory. You have several options but just click on the option that says “Department of Immigration.”

When you click on the link for “Department of Immigration,” you will be taken to a list that provides a variety of services ranging from passport applications to transit visas. Click on the first option that says “Application for a Single Entry Tourist Visa.”

The next page will guide you through a series of rules that govern the issuance of the visa online. Once you’ve read it, you can click on “Apply Now.” Then you can start the actual visa application.

It’s important to note that you don’t seem to be able to save your progress (I didn’t notice a place to save your progress), so if you’re halfway through the application and leave, you’ll lose it. the information you entered. every time I log out and log back in, I have to re-enter all the information every time.

Us Tourist Visa: Requirements And Application Procedure

The first part of the application form is about “Immigrant Information.” This information includes your name, gender, date of birth, place and country of birth, occupation, and parents’ names. Once this part is over, you can move on to the second part.

The second part of the application is “Nationality and Residence.” These are common questions about your citizenship and country of residence.

The third part of the application includes basic passport information, such as the passport number, date of issue, and expiration date.

The fourth part of the application deals with “Travel Information.” These sections include questions related to the purpose of the visit, the name and contact information of your hotel or accommodation. I strongly recommend first registering the housing before applying for the visa since it will show to the immigration authorities that you will be in the country for a limited time, and if they decide to confirm with the housing, there will be a confirmation of a reservation.

The fifth part of the application asks the applicant to provide “Travel History.” In this section, the applicant is asked to list the countries visited in the last 3 months. In addition, this section includes other questions, such as if you have been to Kenya before, if you have been refused before, and if you have had any refusals or sanctions in other countries before other types of similar questions.

The last part of the application is submitted to “Supporting Documents.” This section is not clear because you can only submit one document for each section, but the site gives the impression that you must submit all these documents. Among some of the documents they list are passport bio pages, travel itineraries, hotel flyers, invitation letters, and passport photos.

In my case, I attached a copy of the first page of my passport, my itinerary detailing what I planned to do each day I was in Kenya, and then a passport photo.

Once everything is uploaded, you can review the application before submitting and pay the $51 fee. Once everything is done and paid, you will be able to print an invoice stating that you have paid, then you will have to wait for 2 business days to see if you get the visa or not.

Overall, the process wasn’t too difficult although I found the support documents section a bit confusing since it’s not clear if you have to install all of those documents (it’s not possible) or just select things from those choices.

I am happy to say that my e-Visa for Kenya was approved. Admittedly, it didn’t take 2 business days as stated. Instead, it was closer to 3 days. The 2 business day wait time does not seem to be the same. I have read on various travel sites that some people got a visa in a few hours while others reported having to wait 5, 10, and maybe 20 days or more, and emails and phone calls often the answer. In these cases, people simply print the invoice stating that the visa has been paid and bring it to the immigration office in Kenya. From the reports I’ve read, it seems to work. If anyone has done this, I’d love to hear your experience.

When the visa was approved, I still did not receive an email indicating that the visa had been issued. But, you should be sure to check the status of the application by logging into the website for time checks. Once the status changes from “waiting” to “submitting,” you will have a tab that says “downloads.” Click on it, and you should be able to download a PDF of the e-Visa. Be sure to print it and bring it with you when you arrive in Kenya.

The next step is to submit it to the immigration office at the airport or city of entry, and there should be no problems.

Visa On Arrival In Nairobi, Kenya

This is my experience in using the Kenyan government’s online e-Visa. Overall, it wasn’t too difficult to use, and it worked smoothly. Have you used it before? What was your experience? To visit Kenya you must apply for an E-Visa. Visa on Arrival is no longer possible.

Chances are, you will need a visa to visit Kenya unless you come from one of the selected groups of visa-exempt countries.

All visas are now issued online. Gone are the days of Visa On Arrival and going to the ambassador in a neighboring province, which I did.

Before the Covid pandemic, I got a Visa On Arrival at the airport and back in 2016 I went to the Kenyan office in Addis Ababa.

First, you need an account. It’s easy to do. I struggled at the beginning but I remembered I did a story back in 2020 when I was stuck in Naivasha and had to extend my visa because I couldn’t leave because the airport and borders were closed.

There are many questions: You do not need to provide the information of an entry card only on the intended date of entry. I still had my passport but the visa is good for 3 months from the date of issue.

You will need to provide hotel reservation information, their email address and phone number. You must write your family name and the names of your parents. The rest is pretty simple. And unlike getting a visa on arrival in the old days, you can’t leave a field blank.

The single entry visa costs 51 USD (50 USD and 1 USD usage fee) and there is also a service fee for using a credit card, additionally. I paid 55.20 USD which came out to £44.32.

Evisa To Kenya

On the Kenya E Visa portal, you can also apply for a multiple entry visa, or a transit visa that is valid for 72 hours if you leave the airport for a night or 2, or rush from the border to the airport. Transit visas are not issued at the airport. You must apply online. Those on connecting flights do not need a transit visa. The Kenya Transit eVisa costs 21 USD (20 USD plus 1 USD handling fee).

You can also apply for an East African Tourist Visa which is good for Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda but for me, since Rwanda has no visa for Brits, I didn’t bother. The East African Tourist eVisa costs 101 USD (100 USD plus 1 USD processing fee).
