The standard finish on Kitchen Mart’s Corian® countertops is matte. All Corian® sinks are available in a matte finish. The easiest way to take care of your matte finish is to use soapy water or an ammonia-based cleaner. Use a mild abrasive cleaner such as Comet, Ajax or Soft Scrub and a blue Scotch-Brite pad on your Corian® countertop. Regular use of a polish like Countertop Magic is recommended to keep your counters shiny.

Corian & Solid Surface Repairs

Corian® is non-porous, so stains do not penetrate the surface. Minor imperfections, such as scratches, general or chemical stains, can be removed using a mild abrasive cleaner and blue Scotch-Brit tape, available at most hardware and supply stores.

Avoid using green Scotch-Brite pads as they are more abrasive. As a mild scrub, use a mild water, Scotch-Brit pad in circular motions with light pressure. Rinse with water and dry with a towel. Then it is recommended to use Countertop Magic to restore the shine.

If you find that your Corian® countertop is not as white as it used to be, you can easily fix it with some simple household bleach. Add ½ cup of bleach to each bowl of warm water and allow the solution to sit for a minimum of half an hour. After that, drain the solution, and your gum will return to its original color.

Although Corian® is heat resistant, you should always use a hot plate or rubber-footed trivet to protect it. Hot plates, as well as heat-generating appliances such as frying pans or electric grills, can damage the surface if a hot plate or trivet is not used.

The first step to refinishing a Corian Countertop is to run over the surface with a manual sanding machine equipped with an 800-grit rubber disc. Water is used to keep the work area moist and absorb any fine dust that is created. The board should be applied to the scratched areas, and then the board should be brought down to the same level as the entire surface, so as not to create a stain.

The work area is washed with water to remove any fine dirt that has formed, then the process is repeated with a 1200 grit disc, followed by another rinse. At this point, all scratches and cracks in the Corian should be gone, but the resulting polished look will be dulled.

To get the shine back on the contact, it needs to be polished, and for this we like to use Tile Doctor Diamond Burnishing Pastes, which are 6 inches in diameter and are the perfect size for use with a handheld buffer. This involves using water to lubricate and starting with an 800 grit sandpaper and finishing with a 1500 grit sandpaper.

When the work surface was dry, two coats of sealer were applied to protect it. In this case, I used Tile Doctor Ultra-Seal, a natural looking product that is recommended for use in food preparation and service areas.

Painted Kitchen Counter Faux Marble

To finish I buffed the desktop with a 6 inch whiteboard, the transformation was fantastic and my costumer was over the moon. For care, I recommend using Tile Doctor Stone Patina Spray, a gentle cleaner that will preserve the patina of the stone. Before using a different cleaner or making repairs to a hard surface contact, check the level of gloss on the finish and the color of the hard surface. After using fine abrasives, finishing with a buffing board and polishing compound is the final step in the process for a brilliant shine.
