Being in Hong Kong recently has been great with visa processing (I got Vietnamese, Myanmar, Chinese and North Korean all sorted out for me while there). However I didn’t get my Tanzanian visa early, one of the last trips. The main reason was the limited time, but it is also the same price to get the arrival. Here’s my advice on getting a Tanzanian visa at Kilimanjaro Airport. I flew from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

You Need Yellow Fever Certificate So first make sure you have Yellow Fever Certificate. They check in at Kilimanjaro airport. I got my Yellow Fever Certificate from Australia in 2010 and carry it ALWAYS. It is a necessary trip. If you haven’t, don’t worry, it’s not a complete hit but it will cost you!! You tell them when and where you got the piercing and they will charge you $20 or $30 US (depending on the circumstances) to issue a new certificate at the site. If for some strange reason you haven’t even been vaccinated, then you need to be vaccinated at the airport. This will cost you $50 US and will take some time. So please don’t forget to get vaccinated and carry your certificate. If you are from Tanzania you will have to pay $20 US for the local certificate and vaccination.
After checking the Yellow Fever Certificate, you get the blue Tanzania visa immigration form and fill it. It’s easy to fill out – a standard immigration form. After filling, proceed to number one and pay the visa fee. The visa fee is $50 US for most citizens, and $100 US for US citizens. That can be difficult, but that’s the cost to pay. Payment is in cash and US Dollars only. Euros and local currency will also be accepted, but trust me – pay in US Dollars. Then proceed to room 2 to have your photo and visa inserted into your passport. There is a picture in the entry. You will also get your passport stamped in booth 2. Then proceed to booth 3 to get your fingerprints and you are good to go!
And that’s it – you are in Tanzania!! You are there to enjoy this wonderful country. Be it climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, going on safari, going to Zanzibar or relaxing on the beach. I was in Tanzania at the invitation of Shadow of Africa and I would be on safari, as well as visit a local school and orphanage.
