Usually, when you think of studying at a language school in Japan, you might think that you absolutely need a visa to enter Japan.

However, depending on what type of program you are interested in (long or short) and what country you are from, you may not even need a visa!

The short version is that if you are from a country that has a visa waiver agreement with Japan and the course you are attending is for 3 months or less, you do not need to apply for a student visa.

This is just a document that is given to the inviting organization (school) by the Japan Immigration Bureau as a prerequisite for obtaining your student visa. The inviting organization should send it to you and you can use it to replace the actual visa in your passport.
