I like to keep a gratitude journal that I write every night before bed. I just write down three things I’m grateful for that day and it helps me find the good in that day even if nothing special happens. By doing this every day, the brain is trained to find good things.
Over time you will notice that it becomes easier and easier to find the positive in every situation that arises.
The trick to becoming good at this is consistency. Like anything, the more we do it, the better we get at it.

I want to share with you what I discovered, and share some of my best tips on how to always be happy and positive from my book, “Pearl Perspective: How Changing Your Perspective Can Change Your Life.”
Before we delve into tips on how to always be happy and positive, Let’s define what is happy in life. Sometimes we, as adults, things are too complicated. I think the definition of happiness is one of them. Happiness to me is living a content, fulfilling life where moments of joy are commonplace.
It means making the choice to look at the bright side of the situation, find lessons in difficult times, focus on doing what you can, and trust that the rest will work out.
While not the same, both happiness and contentment are two pieces of the puzzle of a happy, successful life.

For example, I may not be happy if I have to work late, but at the same time, I will be happy if I know that work gives my life a purpose. You probably won’t find me at my desk with a big smile on my face, relaxed and laughing. You will find me at my desk with a focused and determined gaze.
Understanding that contentment is a component of happiness is the key that can unlock the way to always be happy in life. Learning how to be positive is another key, but today we’re going to focus mostly on the happiness part.
Each of the following tips is taken from my book, The Pearl Perspective: How Changing Your Perspective Can Change Your Life. They teach you not only to find contentment in your life now, but also how Just be happy.
My first mistake in the opening example was expecting other people to make me happy. If you want to learn how to be happy and positive, no one can do it for you.

To find your happiness, the first thing you need to do is take responsibility for your own thoughts and feelings. You cannot control other people’s thoughts, feelings, or reactions. You can only control yours. If I want to be happy, I have to start taking some personal actions.
The first step for me was to get my inner critic under control. Are you familiar with the inner critic?
It’s the voice in your head that whispers to us and tells us things like “You’re not good enough.” and “You can’t do it.”

We can go from feeling happy and positive to feeling down. The belly of the snake in the truck in a few minutes if we start to listen and believe Our inner critic.
Those whispers that our inner critic tells us have another name – “automatic negative thoughts” or ANTs. Just like insects they make noise, ANTs have queens that repel them. Her name is Insecurity. Yes, those ANTs appear because of our own insecurities.
Do you know what I do when I see tiny bugs in my house? If it’s just one, I’ll screw it up. You can squash your own ANTs. They go *splat* quite easily when the truth is revealed.
A big part of learning how to always be happy and positive is learning to fight negative thoughts. You will not be happy if those ANTs are always pulling you down.
