Wiping a screen with toothpaste (not the gel kind) supposedly works to fix scratches. All it did in my tests was make the screen glossier and seemed to add small wear marks. Car wax and headlight glass creams are supposed to be effective at removing scratches from screens, so I gave Mother’s PowerPlastic 4Lights headlight cream a try. It made the scratches fade significantly and I liked the shine it gave my screen.

I wasn’t sure about this tip. Websites say to mix the cornstarch with a little water to make a paste, rub it on the screen with a soft cloth and wipe it off. It didn’t do anything with the scratches, but it did make the screen shiny.

OK, this one freaked me out. A lot. It’s never a good idea to put sticky, oily stuff on electronics, but I gave it a shot in the name of science. I dabbed a little on as recommended and rubbed it into the screen with a tissue. As I feared, it just made the test screen greasy and sticky.
