Faux Leather Repair Kit Cat Scratches – Do you have a piece of furniture that looks like this? I had 3 spots about 1″ to 1 1/2″ like this on my love seat. They were getting bigger quickly, so I didn’t have much to lose trying to find a way to fix them.
I searched online and found a leather and vinyl repair kit. It came with a liquid leather substance in different colors, a heat application tool, papers to release the grain texture, and a piece of leather to practice on.

The substance does not harden until heat is applied to it. The hardest part of the whole procedure was getting the color right. There was a color scheme in the kit but I found it more difficult to follow than trying to do the color myself. After a few tries I got the right color for the dining room bench and the love seat only took 2 tries to get it right.

There were 2 empty pots that came in the kit for you to mix your own colors. Once I got the colors right, I marked the tops of the pots in case I had to do additional repairs on the same pieces.
To repair cuts or tears, you paint the area with the substance, feathering inward to blend. Heat the tool using the iron for 3 minutes.
Then apply heat to the area using the texture relief paper and heated tool for 2 minutes. Move the tool across the paper and the entire area to be repaired. Leave the paper on the area for another 2 minutes, then remove the paper. If the area is really bad, you may need to repeat the process.
Hubby and I did the repairs together which saved us some time. If you have more than one area that needs to be fixed, it can take some time. It’s hard to get a good picture of my love seat because of the glare, but you can see the repair turned out pretty well. It’s not perfect, but it’s a lot better than tears. You can barely see the repairs unless you look very close.

Scratches and other signs of wear usually become visible, as damaged areas are lighter on dark leather and darker on lighter leather. In addition, scratches are also noticeable due to surface damage. The surface is rough and the hair sticks to such places.
The difference in color can be hidden with Fresh Leather in the correct color. Leather Fresh does not stain clothes later. It can be used in all contact areas. But the damage to the skin fibers remains visible. In most cases the difference in color is the main problem. In such cases, a treatment with Leather Fresh is sufficient. First degrease the damaged area with Degreaser. Smooth the area with a leather emery pad. On surfaces where high coverage is required, apply Leather Fresh in several layers and dry each layer before the next with a hair dryer. Leather Fresh is binder-based and has a low filling power, which makes damage less visible. Any remaining roughness can always be smoothed out with the leather sanding pad in all working steps with Fresh Leather. On small damages, Leather Fresh can also be applied with a thin brush.
Sometimes small triangular cracks and edges appear. They can be glued with leather glue as well as possible. Use a needle. Dip the tip of the needle into the glue and thinly coat the edges. Let it dry on its own or with a blow dryer and press the fibers down.

Only on deep scratches, where the skin can be torn, liquid skin is recommended to fill and stabilize such damage. But the outline of the scratch remains visible. Liquid leather is rarely needed, as cat scratches are mostly surface damage and no material is torn.
Cat scratches can usually only get better and in most cases the skin will not appear new after the repair.
Small amounts of white pepper powder or lemon oil mixed into grooming products help keep cats off the couch. Cats have sensitive noses and will notice this.
