I’m 17 and I literally just got this car. I scratched it as you can see in the picture below.

No, I’m not a bad driver and I hope this never happens again. It was a mistake – my friend was sick and I had to turn around quickly to avoid her ringing the bell in my car.

The rim really doesn’t look that bad. The main danger may be due to driving conditions that can press the serrated edge into the tire. Even if it did, I doubt it would cause a blowout, although it might shorten the life of the tire.
I can’t tell if there’s any damage to the sidewall of the tire itself from your photo – I’d look around the tire and check for deep gouges and punctures that might be a concern.
The next thing you need to do is read the terms of the lease and determine what your responsibilities are. Bad things happen, and this is taken into account in the calculations of the leasing company. You won’t lose your license or go to jail for it. I also doubt that would be grounds for them to terminate the lease.
You can try to fix it yourself, but unless you’re very experienced with this sort of thing, it will become obvious when you bring the car back and they do an inspection. They will be more offended by deception than actual damage.

That being said, I doubt anyone expects the entire wheel to be replaced, and in reality it may end up costing you more if you go out and buy a new wheel instead of doing whatever the leasing company wants you to do.
Don’t waste money on this repair, it’s cosmetic, but until your lease is almost done, you don’t have to worry about damage. My advice is to put the cash aside, call the Mazda leasing company. if your lease ends 3 months after the end, have them inspect the car for damage and never mention the story again. Most likely: they will not notice this little thing. P.S. wash the vomit off the paint a.s.a.p. otherwise it will cause damage that will be claimed by the leasing company! edit* P.P.S. Many new car customers get some sort of “wheel protection/warranty/guarantee” DON’T SAY IT DID BARDUCCI… (pothole!) and they’ll give you a new tire too!

How Do I Repair A Curbed Wheel?
Few things in life look or feel better than freshly repaired rims. The spokes of our cars are one of the most vulnerable parts of our cars to cosmetic damage because they are so close to the ground. Accidental contact with the curb, highway debris, potholes from road debris, and scratches from taking the wheels off and on all add up to worse wear on your wheels. New discs are expensive and usually not necessary. We can repair rims with great results and get you back on the road at a fraction of the cost of a new set of wheels. Check out the before and after in this post from a while back.
Repairing a drive is a surprisingly simple procedure if you have the right tools. First, remove the wheels from the car and protect the rubber with masking tape. We start work on the rims by sanding out all the dings and scratches and filling in any dings that might affect the finish. The entire rim is then primed and painted with a bright silver metallic paint and clear coat for a high gloss finish.
Repairs are a lot cheaper than most people think, and we can get you back on the road the next morning with 4 beautiful wheels – or sooner if you only want to take care of one or two.
Your wheels are important, so it’s important to take them to the experts. We’ve been repairing and refinishing rims for decades, so you can be sure we have the tools and experience you need to do a top-notch job. Just contact us to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
