Customer service centers are open for general inquiries, but vehicle inspections require an appointment. Customers can file a claim through the mobile app, online or by calling 1-800-SF-CLAIM and will receive an appointment at that time.
State Farm’s response to Hurricane Ian began before the storm made landfall, with a fleet of disaster response teams deployed and ready to respond in Birmingham, Alabama earlier this week. State Farm is also setting up an orientation center in Birmingham to support incoming claims, with more than 100 new claims handlers coming in every hour. Fully stocked laptops, printers and a variety of additional technical equipment are being distributed to prepare claims handlers to effectively respond to affected customers.
Our Ian response includes State Farm agents who live and work in the same neighborhoods as our customers and teams of claims specialists trained in disaster response to assess damage on site. They are joined by thousands of centralized care center employees across the country answering customer questions and helping with claims.

Additionally, our remote claims teams can conduct virtual inspections with affected customers after the storm, helping customers in their time of need. The use of aerial imagery during the first phase of the response helps pinpoint areas of severe impact. This helps State Farm identify affected areas and customers, assess where we need to respond first, and send our first wave of resources to begin handling claims for the most affected.
Our State Farm Customer Response Unit (CRUS) has been touring the communities affected by Ian. CRU team members and State Farm agents distributed much-needed items such as bottled water, packaged snacks, work gloves and other useful items for residents. The CRU team responds immediately after a disaster, navigating through affected areas to provide personal contact and support to those in need. State Farm agents frequently visit CRUs and can provide residents with helpful information on filing their claim and insurance advice. State Farm is here to support residents in this critical first step on the road to recovery.
Given the potential for home damage and Hurricane Ian claims to expand, we want to alert Floridians to an important issue called AOB (Allocation of Benefits). State Farm has seen an increase in claims with the awarding of benefits across the State.
When it is safe to do so, check your property for damage. If you have storm damage to your home, follow these tips to avoid an AOB error: If you experience property damage to your home, contact State Farm immediately to file a claim. Be careful not to read the documents completely before signing anything. Remember that an AOB transfers many of your claim payments and rights to the vendor or contractor. This language is often difficult to identify in documents. Keep your rights! Vendors that receive AOBs can be water mitigation companies, roofers, or other contractors. Be careful before signing anything with a salesperson/contractor who solicits you directly and advises you to file a homeowner’s claim. Also, preserve all construction materials removed by any contractor or vendor until you speak with State Farm.
