I have many questions: … and I have many answers. lol 1. Will going from 215/65r17 to 225/65r17 cause friction or mounting issues? I ran BFG KO2’s LT225/65R17’s for years on my Trailhawk when they were stock, no problems. 2. Which A/T offers the best all-round performance for both off-road and highway driving? I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California where there is snow, curvy roads and rain. I have a 120 mile commute to work (round trip). I think it’s the perfect size and style of tire for the riding I do. 3. Will increasing the tire size provide any noticeable lift? 1/4 inch rise. BUT, it will look cooler. 4. I can replace the spare tire in the trunk with a bigger one and have no issues. Yes, the BFG KO2’s LT225/65R17 fits the spare tire perfectly. Click to expand…

I have a full size 235 65 17 it fits in my trunk! Search our forum for photos and more information.

Check out the 225/65/17 Geolander g015 and the wildpeak a/t3w 215/65/17. I have had the g015s for about a year now. They work great. A little weak in the mud, but I don’t get into the mud much.

Just to add to your options, I’ve been running Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus (225/65/17) on my ’15 TH with no rubbing anywhere. The Pirelli’s are a bit noisier than the Wrangler Its that were stock on my TH and I think there may be a very small reduction in MPG (but not enough to be sure). I live at 8500′ in the Pikes Peak area and found them fine in the snow.

I also run Pirelli Scorpions, I like them a lot so far. I don’t think they are any louder than the stock Falkens but much better grip and look.

Seeking A/t Tires For Stock Height Trailhawk

I just ordered a set (5) of Toyo Open Country A/T II 225/65R17 through tire rack. I got them to match the best price I could find, 2 years free road risk and free shipping. $715.50 and I will have them in 2 days.

Falken Wildpeak AT3W 215/65/r17. Stock size, amazing true all terrain. I have 12,000 miles on them and they are barley worn. They handle really well in Florida dirt and sand. Only downsize is my mpg dropped about 1-2 and if you’re not used to tire squeal it’s there but not much.

These were my second choice. It was very close to the price. It’s nice to have some reasonable options instead of just $200+ options.

That equates to around £109 in UK money and my Geolanders were only £10 less and that was at the local tire supplier.

They must have recently started offering these tires in this size? They have never come up in my tire research as an option, but sometimes it depends on where you shop too. They look good. psiphone for pc jiofi.local.html

4 months ago, I replaced the OE Falken HTs with a set of Wildpeak AT/3s on my ’17 Hawk. These are true all-terrain tires and a big improvement over the OE.

KO2s were on our 15th TH when we got it. 225/65r17 and rubbed in tight turns.

2018 Trailhawk without mods. No rubbing issues so far and definitely a better ride than the Advanta ER700 that the dealership put in!

Keep them rotated (crossed) to keep wear even. As I said above, it only got 35k out of it, BUT it was basically all over town, which is much worse for tire wear.

Don’t forget your off-road supplies, a good belt (motor if possible), air compressor, small tool set (and plug kit), maybe a better/taller jack and/or some boards.

My regular everyday HF aluminum road floor jack can’t get its tire off the ground if used in a factory weld area.

And WTF with an off brand all season tire like this on a TH? Dealer or previous owner puts anything that fits the tread for as cheap as possible. SMH

This is an older thread, you may not get a reply and you could revive an old thread. Consider creating a new thread. The best Jeep tire isn’t just a brand or size, it’s the type of rubber that will match your most frequent driving environment. So before you go check out a brand of tires that a friend recommended or place an order because the tire you saw online looked nice, here are some tips and differences that will make choosing your next set of tires easier.

If your Jeep currently has conventional street tires or still the factory tires, but you plan to occasionally drive on mild trails, you may want to consider upgrading to an all-terrain tire. As the name suggests, it’s a style of tire that provides plenty of grip in most off-road environments without making huge sacrifices in pavement handling. Nor will it activate the noise factory during daily driving. However, it’s worth noting that these all-terrain tires typically use somewhat softer tires than factory (or street) tires and have more aggressive tread patterns. Both are certainly factors behind improved off-road traction, but can contribute to faster tread wear.

Likewise, mud tires provide significantly more off-road grip than conventional factory rubber, but also boot grip over all-terrain tires. In fact, mud tires are usually the choice for anyone who spends more than a little time on the trail. These tires use very soft rubber compounds and have extremely aggressive tread patterns that all help keep mud and other debris out of the grooves to give the serious off-roader plenty of appetite on the trail. Consequently, this contributes to faster-than-normal tread wear and a lot of road noise on both factory and all-terrain tire versions.

Now, some people choose to tolerate these characteristics on the pavement in order to get maximum traction on the more serious trails. However, not all mud tires are created equal. Some are designed to perform superiorly in specific environments such as deep mud, snow, sand, rocks, or a combination of all four. So it pays to pay close attention to the manufacturer’s description and user reviews in order to decide which particular tire will perform best in your off-road environment.

The final style is biased tires and this term refers to the overall construction of the tire. Unlike regular radial tires that use cords and steel belts to provide sidewall stiffness and tread stability, bias tires use a criss-cross pattern of nylon cords. This means the sidewall and tread are similarly constructed and have more layers than a standard tire.

Because of this construction technique, bias tires are generally much more puncture resistant than any other type of tire
