
Best Tires For 2016 Jeep Renegade – With the launch of the Trailhawk approaching and no sign of the promised Falken WildPeak A/T 215/65R17 tires, I looked for possible alternative A/T tire sizes for the Trailhawk, as the stock 215/65R17 is an unusual size. Maybe Falken is just behind in their development and they will be available soon?
I researched dozens of tire sizes, brands and models. The first thing I learned using the 1010tires.com tire size calculator was this pop-up warning:

I have the Latitude 1.4/6-spd with 16 inch wheels and would like to upgrade from the original Conti LX to an all-terrain tire. I read very good reviews about the Cooper Discoverer AT/3. They do not manufacture in size 215/65/16, the closest sizes they manufacture are 215/85/16 and 225/75/16. Would one or both tires fit on the Latitude without issue or would it void the warranty? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

This may help Jeep by claiming that a diameter tire size greater contributed to any warranty claims you may have and telling you that you have voided your warranty.

Click to expand… I just bought a set of Cooper AT3s in 235/60/R17 for my 2016 Trailhawk. They are 0.2 inches taller than stock and fit perfectly without rubbing. I went through some swamps last week and they worked perfectly.
If you want to gain some lift with bigger/taller tires, the 225 or 235 will do. However, what still needs to be determined is whether these sizes, on an original Trailhawk, will fit in the original wheel wells?
Depending on the tire size you select, if you have to buy new wheels you will miss out on the cool looking Trailhawk wheels with the red Willy’s on them, but that’s the trade off that has to be made. Maybe a tough-looking off-road wheel will make the Trailhawk look even better.
So the next challenge is to find alternative 16” or 17” wheels, with the Renegade’s 5x110mm bolt pattern. The stock offset is ET40, but with tire size 225 or 235 it may need to be different.

What is the best brand and model of tire to choose for the Trailhawk? Well, of course this is somewhat subjective. What combination are you looking for, Ride, Handling, Mileage?
For me, the best combination of on-road comfort, minimal road noise and good off-road traction. Reviewing research like that of Tirerack and others helps:
For example, in size 215/70R16, the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S has the lowest noise, best comfort and good traction on dry roads.
Top 10 Best Tires For The Jeep Renegade
I was looking at this stuff last week. It appears that the Trailhawk tire size is very unusual. Based on the fact that I’m not going to be rock crawling, I decided it would be best to go with the Latitude with the 1.4L turbo and that way I can get the 6-speed manual as well.
The standard tire size on the manual Latitude is 215/65/16, and there are a ton of A/T tires available in that size, including the Yokohama Geolandar and General Grabber AT2. I think the Grabbers look like the best tire (I love the beefier look), but I would have to do some reading to determine which is best. But either way, you seem to have a lot of options at this size.
Ok – please educate me here. All Renegades come with tires, right? Are the original tires so bad that it’s common to immediately go out and spend an extra $1,000 or so on new ones? So what do you do with the new tires?
I’m not sure about Trailhawk tires, but I suspect some people want a more aggressive tire for off-roading.

As for me, I would definitely buy the Trailhawk if it came with the 1.4L turbo and manual transmission. But since that doesn’t happen, I think I might get the Latitude and then put some AT tires on it, since the Latitude only comes with regular all-season tires and I want something more rugged.
OEM-installed tires on the Renegade Trailhawk have better fuel efficiency than, for example, Yokohama Geolandar G012, which are rated “F” for fuel efficiency (European Union tire label).
Your correct A/T tires will reduce your fuel consumption. If you want a Trailhawk just for looks or for riding moderate dirt roads or trails, OEM tires will suit you.
If you want to tackle more challenging off-road routes, trails with deep, faded ruts, rocks or boulders, you need more compliant treads on your tires. This also helps keep the tires intact on the wheels when you hit a sharp rock or tree stump, as many tires with tread compliance have heavier sidewalls.

Do we know for sure if any larger tire would void the warranty? Even if it’s about 3% higher?
They cannot specify replacement parts. Even for tires labeled exactly the same, there is a range of actual measured diameters despite the label on the sidewall. Additionally, the OEM selection of tires on the same factory powertrain is quite different. Plus, there simply aren’t many tire options that will fit.
I think the reality is that without a lift kit, you won’t have a choice of something that could cause debate on the subject.
With a lift, if a lift is something that can be done on the renegade, it will not void the warranty on anything other than things immediately affected by the lift, wheels and tires.

A) your air conditioning stops working. They can’t deny it because their changes have nothing to do with it.
B) your wheel bearings die too soon. They can and should deny this, because with the spacers you have changed the displacement of the wheels and thus increased the stress
