$300 per product, 1,000 per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card, you only have 2,000 RP total coverage regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if a product is suitable for RP, instead of asking for opinions here (a bit better than asking for medical advice on Facebook), take PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don’t have to give your name or card details, just say you have or are about to buy an item and the store has a bad return policy and you want to make sure you can return it if you have a problem.

But there are many other benefits that you should know about in order to get the full value of the annual fee you pay. We take a look at 17 hidden benefits of American Express Platinum to help you decide if it deserves room in your wallet.
As with any credit card, a sign-up bonus is one of the immediate benefits of getting a new credit card. The Platinum Card® from American Express has a current welcome bonus of 100,000 points after spending $6,000 in the first six months.
Remember that the annual fee for the first year of The Platinum Card® from American Express is not waived. However, the value of the sign-up bonus and $400 in annual credits more than equals the first year’s annual fee.
Cardholders may add up to 3 additional cardholders to extend these benefits for $175 per year. Each additional cardholder pays $175 per year for each person.
Your Guide To Getting A Refund From American Express
The sign-up bonus is nice, but you also get it once. American Express has a “once in a lifetime” bonus rule, so make sure the bonus is high enough to make the application worthwhile.
What convinces cardholders to renew year after year are the benefits you get each year. Here are the common benefits that most American Express Platinum cardholders use regularly:
Cardholders receive $200 in airline credits each calendar year on the American Express Platinum Card. These credits can be used for baggage fees, seat assignments, change fees, and telephone reservation fees to name a few. Airline tickets are not eligible for these airline refunds. Gift cards are also not included. However, some people report that they have been able to get credit to buy them.
In order to use airline credits, you must select your preferred airline from the following list:

Once you’ve made your choice for a year, you can’t change it. However, you are free to continue on the course or choose another airline after January 1st.
Unfortunately, the $200 Uber credits are not given all at once. Instead, cardholders get $15 in Uber credit per month and an extra $20 in December. If you’re like most people and don’t use Uber every month, these credits also count toward Uber Eats orders.
Amex Platinum also allows you to upgrade to Uber VIP status without meeting minimum travel requirements. This ensures that you get the best controller possible.
American Express has a lounge network exclusively for American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders. The Centurion Lounge has nine seats:
Amex Platinum Card Benefits & Review (is It Worth It In June 2023?)
It has been reported that the Centurion Lounge has limited access during busy times of the day or year. And American Express entry was recently limited to the cardholder and two guests.
Check out this post on Instagram. Impressed with how big the new @dfwairport @americanexpress #CenturionLounge is. Spacious with plenty of comfortable seats. Still the same delicious free food and premium drinks. A post shared by Lee Huffman (@) on Nov 12, 2018 at 3:24pm PST
This restricted entry rule is absolutely fucked up for families like mine, traveling with a mom, dad and two kids. It basically forces us to either pay for a day pass (if it’s available on the same day) or pay $175 for the other parent to be a cardholder as well.
Please note that registration is required with Priority Pass before you can access one of their lounges. When you call to activate your Platinum Card® from American Express, speak with a customer service representative to sign up for Priority Pass and learn about all the latest benefits they offer.

If you have other authorized users on your account, they can also use these lounges, whether or not they are traveling with the primary cardholder.

Frequent travelers know that waiting in line is not the best use of their time. That’s why Global Entry or TSA PreCheck is crucial to getting through domestic airport security and customs.
With the Amex Platinum card, you get up to $100 in compensation every four years to join either of TSA PreCheck’s Global Entry programs. Other border security programs such as NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST are not included. Other cardholders also have the opportunity to receive this compensation benefit.
Crazy American Express Platinum Benefits ($1,400 Value)
While these popular benefits are pretty great, the American Express Platinum Card has a lot of hidden benefits that cardholders don’t know about or forget to use. If you’re thinking about canceling your card when the next annual fee is due, these 17 hidden benefits may convince you to keep the card for another year.
With the American Express Platinum card, Centurion Lounge and Priority Pass are not the only lounge networks you can access. There are more than 1,100 airport lounges in 120 countries that Amex Platinum cardholders can go to.
When I lived in California, one of my favorite lounges wasn’t even in an airport. It was actually located inside a mall. The Access Suite Lounge at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa is relatively small, but offers free drinks and snacks. I walked to the golf course with friends in the morning and treated them to a little luxury afterwards.
And I randomly found the Escape Lounge at the Reno airport on the way back from snowboarding with my son. They had good food, free drinks and a nice place to rest before our flight.
Amex Adds Travel Coverage To Premium Cards
With many other premium credit cards, Globel Entry or TSA PreCheck reimbursement is reserved for the primary cardholder only. This is not the case with the American Express Platinum card.
With the Amex Platinum card, each authorized cardholder also receives up to $100 in reimbursement for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. This benefit can be used once every 4 years. You just pay the application fee to the authorized user’s credit card and the refund will be made automatically.

To be honest, I haven’t used this benefit as much as I should have over the years. But most of my hotel stays are booked using hotel points instead of cash.
