2007 Forest River Cardinal 5th Wheel

I have read on several forums about how bad the Cardinal is and the poor quality that Forest River produces. Well I have a 2007 Cardinal 31RKLE and have only used it 4 times and really love it. I had to the dealers for the usual “punch list” but nothing serious. My DW loves the counter space on this model. I love the KING size bed. I’ve never had an “Air Pin” before, but it seems to help with the Up/Down movement. The TrailAir Suspension seems to help with the rough spots. The only thing I can complain about is the Concertone DVD player. The Subwoofer goes in and out while watching a DVD. It does the same thing with a music CD.

We are going on a 5 week vacation in September that will be about 6000 miles with 15 RV parks. I’m sure this will make a real good “shake down” of the unit.

Welcome to the forum. I’m glad you love your Cardinal. I don’t have one, but I don’t mind having one. My local dealer sells a lot of them and has very few, if any complaints about them.

When you read about the poor quality of FR products, it is probably the very small minority of owners who had the bad luck of buying the proverbial lemon that passed for QC. These people usually shout the loudest about how much they dislike their trailer and the manufacturer should be removed. I can understand their frustration, but it’s blowing out of proportion a problem that doesn’t exist. If the manufacturer really made the crappy products that the authors of the posts suggest, they would have been out a long time ago. JMO.

Welcome to the Forest River Forums Squire. Tell us a little about the new trailer and be sure to post some photos when it arrives.

Thanks for the “welcome”. I posted about our new diggs on my blog. Feel free to check it out and leave a comment here or on the blog. We have been full-timers for 6 years. I am still working so we are stationary but that will change as soon as I retire.

Sorry, I’m not sure how to make my blog url “clickable”. We ordered it because we wanted a few things that are not normally ordered on riggi in this part of the country.

I think a few mods when I arrive and post about them here so that everyone can say, “a great idea or it must be nuts”. haha

I hope we are not disappointed by the quality of the Cardinal (don’t think we will be). Our current rig is an ITASCA motorhome from Winnibago which we love but just needed more room and this rig is 20 years old.

Check your tires, if they are Karrier Loadstars, be very afraid, replace them. They came on my 29RK and I had 3 shots. A result in damage to my trailer. I am replacing mine at the moment.

We are new owners of a 2008 Cardinal LE 30RK, just upgraded from a Sierra. I absolutely love our new 5er, it’s new closed bathroom floor plan with the large u-shaped kitchen with real counter space! We have had NO problems with our Sierra, including 2 trips to Florida, and we anticipate the same with our Cardinal, we just wanted tinted windows, better insulation and an enclosed bathroom, not to mention the camera slide and a large wardrobe.

We have Karrier LoadStar tires, I have heard there have been problems with them. What should we be looking for?

My wife and I are looking to upgrade from our old 1996 TT to a 5th wheel. There are several Cardinal, Seirra and Sandpiper models that we really like, but the ratings given to all Forrest River RVs by the “Consumer RV Group” is pretty depressing. At least the Sierra and Sandpiper prices are reasonable. What have been your experiences with Forrest River RV?

We are also lurking and trying to gather information on a fifth wheel vs. camper setup. We have a 26ft Winnabago now and are thinking about a new truck and fifth wheel. Love all the room you have in a fifth, but that you don’t have a generator … important for us because we travel with our dog and we stop to eat in a restaurant and we need heat or air … generator. I’m just finding generators on toy carriers….any suggestions.

I bought a 4000 watt contractor style genny at UFS for 400 dollars. It runs a 30 amp service just fine. Will run 1 roof air and lights and stuff. Furnace runs on 12 volts in camper.

Welcome. We bought a 29LE last September and love it. As for the dogs when it stops, the heat flows twelve times, and ours has a twelve time fan “fantastic fantastic, I think” in the ceiling. We leave our dog in the trailer when we go out to eat and even though it was “winter” in Florida it is still pretty warm some days. We do not let you ride in the trailer when you go down the road, so it can be considered when buying a new unit.

’08 “Chug,” who runs in a dead tie for second to be as spoiled as the ’71 wife.

We have a 2006 (bought new in 2007) Cardinal 34TS. So far, we have run it on a trip of about 7000 kilometers, and several shorter trips. We added protective slide curtains and finished the installation of a generator. All in all, we enjoyed the trailer.

The bad part? the Karrier Loadstar tires. Like everyone else on this forum, we have lost 3 already, resulting in the loss of both fender skirts and damage to both center landing lights. I found out that the fender skirts, which are about the cheapest plastic I’ve ever seen, cost $100 bucks! Enough to sting, but not enough to bypass an insurance deductible.

Yes, those skirts are cheap, i had them both replaced under warranty from stress cracks at the attachment screws.

Hello everyone! I wish I had found this forum a year ago too. We have a 2007 30TS and absolutely love it…of course the Loadstar tires are there but so far (knock on wood) no problems….only problems have been with the Concertone but I think that we may have the upper hand. that problem finally.

We upgraded from a 24′ travel trailer… 2 ladies here figuring out how to travel with this 5th but every trip gets easier… just wanted to say “hi” to everyone!

Hello everyone. New to the forum as I just purchased an 03 Cardinal. It is in great shape except that all the exterior storage doors have turned yellow. They appear to be made of the same fiberglass as the siding and are pretty white. Is this a common problem and has anyone found anything good to turn it white? It happened at every door. I tried Totally Awesome cleaner, softscrub, detergent, and peroxide. Nothing worked. Any suggestions? I was surprised to read here that Cardinals received negative reviews. I was still under the assumption that they were top of the line. What does it give? Thanks for any advice.
